What are some mistakes bloggers make when working with freelancers?
Some influencers will hire their friends or family members because it is faster. This strategy does not allow the time and care that is needed to find the right candidate for your business.
Another mistake bloggers make is accepting referrals from other bloggers. While these freelancers may work well with another blogger, they may not be the right fit for you. It is important to take the recruiting process seriously and may even want to consider asking your candidate for sample work.
What can you do to prepare for working with a freelancer?
It is important to have organization before adding someone to your team. Organizing folders and documents will allow for a new team member to easily find and complete tasks. Using a project management tool, such as Trello or Asana, can help you to organize your work with or without a team.
You should also determine which tasks you would like to outsource. You should create a list of the things that you would like a freelancer to do for you. Creating a list of tasks will allow you to see what type of role you would like to create for your business.
What are freelancers looking for in a client?
The first thing to consider if the time you can offer them. Many freelance workers want at least 3-5 hours of work per week. Freelancers are also looking for a long-term relationship. They will want a stable position where they won’t have to keep looking for work.
The final thing freelancers look for is work they are interested in. Freelancers tend to be attracted to bloggers because the topics they blog about are interesting.
Once you find a freelancer, what kind of agreement should be made?
It is important to use a contract when working with a freelancer. The contract should include the pay rate, structure, and duties. You may wish to include in the contract that you can terminate it at any time. Likewise, you can give the freelancer a 30-day trial before committing to a long-term relationship.
You can use a program such as Upwork to find and recruit freelance workers. You should have the freelancer send you an invoice for work they performed. There are services such as Toggl that allow you to see the time the freelancer spent working.
