About
Christina Hitchcock and Corinne Schmitt are the founders and business coaches behind the The Smart Influencer. They host a weekly podcast where they share straightforward tips to help influencers work smarter not harder. Together they have over 20 years of experience running six-figure businesses. They’re both published authors and run multiple sites (independently and together). They are spreadsheet geeks and workflow fanatics with a knack for creating systems that anyone (even those who detest spreadsheets) can easily use.
Two-Factor Authentication
The two-factor authentication is a must have for most websites to help secure your accounts and information. It usually requires a phone number, but if you are planning to have other people access your accounts it may be easier to use the email method for easier access.
“Some of the services that we use force you into two-factor authentication but they can use the email method”
Authentication Apps
Authentication apps generate security codes for signing into sites that need a higher level of security. Though there can be difficulty if you purchase a new digital device. It can be difficult to get into your secure app.
“They are very secure but not as convenient.”
Password Vaults and VPNs
There are great benefits in using password vaults because it keeps your passwords securely stored. If you work within a group, using a password vault keeps your information secure but lets others access your accounts without having access to your passwords.
VPNs can also be used if you want to shield your IP address for any variety of reasons. It comes in handy when you’re accessing your account while traveling since it’s quite easy to hack someone on a public Wi-Fi.
“There’s always things you can do to be more secure.”
Additional Protection Tips
- It is important to have a hard copy of your sensitive information so that you will be able to access it always.
- Make sure that you also secure your home Wi-Fi. Talk to your provider about setting up a business plan for added security features.
- For your social media accounts, you can add another admin for extra protection in case you can’t get ahold of your accounts.
- You can also put secure passwords on sensitive notes or documents to keep them safe. It works better if you can hide the content by using random titles.
Christina and Corinne created a Contingency plan sheet in the event that something happens to you, your loved ones will be able to get the information to make informed decisions about your business.
“If you have protected information written somewhere put a good secure password on those documents.“
