Episode 064: Neil Peart’s 10 Rules for Success

Earn your Audience

When it comes to your audience, you will not have their attention, respect and trust right away. You need to earn it by observing and adjusting what content your audience wants to receive from you.

Be Restless

You need to fill your pockets of time and be productive. Neil would spend his time reading books even when he was in the doctor’s waiting rooms. Likewise, you should use your free time to its full potential to grow your knowledge and generate strategies that can help your business.

“What is the most excellent thing I can do?”

Get out of Your Comfort Zone

Everyone always encourages you to get out of your comfort zone but Neil Peart adds a spin to this piece of advice. Many of the times, we are afraid to try new things not because of others but because of ourselves. He says to get out of your comfort zone without judgment from yourself.

Learn from Others

When you go through an experience, don’t just analyze things in the moment but also learn from the aftermath. You need to worry only about what you can control. You can learn so much from who you look up to by copying their positive attitudes and mindset. Moreover, don’t forget to surround yourself with people who react how you want to react.

Create What you Like

When it comes to content creation, you need to enjoy what you post. However, that does not mean you have to live what you create. You might not be able to eat what you cook, but if you enjoy the process, then that is enough.

Infect People with Your Fire

In conjunction with enjoying what you create, you need to have enthusiasm. Your audience will more likely engage with your content if you are excited and passionate about what you post and discuss. Share what inspires you, and you can inspire others.

Don’t Read Reviews

Neil reiterates to not get caught up on the negative reviews, or comments. Even if you do not receive good comments, that does not mean you are not doing great. People will only take time out of their day if they have a bad experience and are more likely to leave negative comments. However, that does not take away your success.

Create for Your Ideal Audience

Neil Peart emphasizes that you need to put yourself in your audience’s shoes and understand how you can relate to them. Your audience most likely is not an expert in the same field you are so sometimes you need to break down things that you think they know.

“We are not writing for us.”

Find Your Inspiration

When it comes to inspiration, you need to go out of your comfort zone. Learning from different point of views, or different fields can help inspire your creativity. Corinne challenges you to attend conferences that are not in your field and ask yourself, “What can I learn to bring back?”

Never Stop Experimenting

Many content creators find a routine that works for them and get comfortable. However, you should push yourself to look outside the box and find new ideas. Never stop experimenting and continue to apply all of the rules to successfully grow your business.
