Not Making It Easy to Join Email List

You need to make it easy for people to join your email list and make it desirable to be on that list. You can include it on the blog post itself or use sidebars and popups. However, make it stand out so it does not seem to appear as just another ad. You can also offer a freebie, such as an e-book, to give your audience a reason why they should join your email list.

Not Emailing Consistently

More often than not, we focus on growing our email list that we disregard sending the actual emails. We often get caught up on what content to include and when to schedule them. However, we should send them on a regular basis so your subscribers will learn to expect your emails. Amy suggests to include your top and newest content and events to see what your subscribers like best.

Not Recycling Content

Recycling your content can save you time when you feel you are out of fresh ideas and on time constraints. You can reuse the seasonal and holiday content every year. You can make any updates to the emails but regardless, you will save time. Additionally, you can use your emails as captions for your social media posts.

Not Writing in Your Own Voice

You should make your emails feel personal to your subscribers by using your own slang and expressions. Your subscribers want to feel like you’re talking to them. Creating these personal emails will help foster connections with your subscribers.

“You want it to sound like you.”

Not Using Email to Increase Revenue

Not only can you drive traffic to your website with email marketing, but you can also use it to increase revenue. If you want to sell a product, tie it your freebie. You can offer an extension of the freebie for purchase at a discounted price. You can use an email series to grab their attention and lead them to your product. If you offer them a solution to their problem, you will earn their trust from the beginning.
